NAD+ is a naturally occurring coenzyme that is found in every cell in the human body and is essential to life. As levels decline with age supplementing NAD+ is one way to promote healthy aging. NAD+ is ideal for anyone that wants to enhance their well-being and health.
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) is a coenzyme found in every cell in the human body. NAD is used in cellular energy production, DNA repair and synthesis and immune system functions. As an essential molecule in cellular function maintaining NAD levels is crucial to healthy aging. As we age, inflammation occurs in our bodies and consequently causes NAD levels to decline. This decline in NAD levels can cause many age related complications and lead to degenerative diseases.
Maintaining NAD levels as we age has been shown to slow the aging process, increase energy levels, and improve cognitive function. NAD can be taken as a supplement orally, topically (patches and creams), subcutaneously (injection) and intravenously. Intravenous NAD restores cellular levels immediately while hydrating the body. This allows cells to rejuvenate and repair making a healthier you.
Exten offers intravenous NAD infusions in our office and concierge house calls. These infusions are given over one to four hours depending on the dose. Infusions are titrated to individual tolerance. NAD can cause flushing, chest and head tightness when administered too fast. Our nurses will monitor you during the infusion and adjust the rate to your tolerance.
100 mg NAD mixed with a Myers cocktail in 500 ml of normal saline. This infusion can be tolerated between one to two hours. This may vary individually.
250 mg NAD mixed with a Myers cocktail in 500 ml of normal saline. This infusion can be tolerated at a faster rate and usually takes two hours. This may vary individually.
500 mg NAD mixed in 500 ml of normal saline. This infusion typically takes three to four hours. This may vary individually.
Since NAD is naturally found in our body and required for cellular function, there are minimal side effects. NAD can cause flushing, chest discomfort and head tightness when infused too fast. This is due to its relation to niacin (Vitamin B3) and the prostaglandin activation that causes cutaneous vasodilation when niacin levels rise quickly. The flushing and tightness can be alleviated by slowing the drip rate.
You are required to fill out a brief medical history form, informed consent for IV therapy and have a phone consult to review your medical history with our Medical Director. You then arrive at our office or we will come to your home. The nurse will review your medical history and then begin the infusion process. This involves a nurse placing a small IV catheter into a vein and attaching it to the IV tubing. The nurse will then begin your NAD drip.
NAD infusions can have some mild discomfort associated with them, as mentioned above. This can partially be alleviated by having a hearty meal prior and having some snacks handy during infusion. We also recommend you do not drink the night prior to infusion. Drinking the night prior to infusion can exacerbate infusion side effects listed above.
NAD infusions typically take one to four hours depending on the dose and individual tolerance. The nurse will titrate the drip to your tolerance.
There are many different protocol and recommendations for NAD dosing. The protocol we feel is best for individuals and their quest for healthy aging is four NAD infusions over a month followed by booster doses as needed. For individuals that would like the added benefits of vitamins we recommend the 100 mg or 250 mg NAD Myers Cocktail.
All individuals who want to optimize their health as they age. Individuals who have significant medical history may not able to receive NAD infusions. Also individuals with a current diagnosis or history of cancer may not be good candidates for NAD therapies.
